I love to satisfy a sweet tooth with a low-sugar treat. Insert: these homemade low-sugar fruit gummies. These are a great after-school treat or snack, or a much easier on the body dessert for that craving you have to satisfy.
Made with just 3 ingredients: fruit puree, powdered gelatin and Swoon Zero Sugar Simple Syrup. These aren’t sugar-free because of the fruit puree, but they are low in sugar and have no added refined sugar. You can find powdered gelatin in almost any grocery store or online now, and you can use any fruit puree flavor you want like passionfruit or mango. Make the puree yourself or find one like I did that is just pure fruit, no added sugar.
Ingredients & Tips:
I live in Hawaii and part-time in San Diego where passionfruit grows like crazy. It’s known as “lilikoi” in Hawaii, and it’s got a strong, tart and tropical flavor I just love. I am able to strain out the seeds and save the puree in my freezer. But everyone doesn’t live in these places! So I found Perfect Puree, a company that does all sorts of fruit purees by the case that you can order to your door from Amazon. They do great fruit flavors from passionfruit to mango to peach to blood orange. You could also use mango puree for these fruit gummies, and make it yourself!
I chose to incorporate Swoon Syrup to make these gummies with no added sugar. Swoon Zero Sugar Simple Syrup is great because it gives the sweetness without the spike in blood sugar. If I were using a sweeter puree in these fruit gummies, I would scale down the Swoon Syrup so that they are not too sweet. Don’t worry, I have a link for the Swoon Syrup below from Amazon. Let me know what you think of it!
We have switched in our society from eating the whole animal when we eat meat. Eating just muscle leaves out the benefits of collagen and minerals from the bones of animals, which you can get in gelatin. Many people have greatly improved their digestive and gut health by incorporating healing foods like collagen. Get yourself a quality beef gelatin like the one I use from Vital Proteins. Collagen is great for skin, nails and hair, plus it’s got tons of protein. I even put a scoop in my bulletproof coffee every morning.
To scale this recipe, just remember it’s 2 scoops of powdered gelatin per cup of liquid.
I used silicone moulds to make these little fruit gummies fun and bite-sized, but you can easily use a glass baking dish. You would just give them a little more time to set, then slice them into squares.
My favorite products for this recipe:
- Swoon Zero Sugar Simple Syrup: Swoon is a 1:1 replacement for simple syrup made with Monk Fruit Extract. 1 tsp. of Swoon is the about the same sweetness as one sugar packet. You can use it wherever you would use simple syrup or as a replacement for honey and agave, like in margaritas!
- Vital Proteins Beef Gelatin: pasture-raised, grass-fed, non-gmo, kosher gelatin that will gel in cold liquids. It’s flavorless, dissolves easily, and is filled with protein that helps your hair, skin and nails. It supports joint health and gut health too!
- The Perfect Puree: This company makes 41 different purees, concentrates and zests that are frozen and delivered to your door. They source crops from growers who maintain sustainable farming practices. Helping the Earth with great food is always a plus! You can get one jar from their website or get a whole case and keep it in your freezer from Amazon.

Easy Homemade Fruit Gummies- Low Sugar
Equipment
- 8"x8" baking dish or silicone moulds
- heavy sauce pan
- liquid measuring cups
- whisk
Ingredients
- 1 ½ cup fruit puree
- ½ cup Swoon Sugar-Free Simple Syrup
- 4 tbsp. powdered gelatin, I use vital proteins brand, 2 scoops
Method
- Grease your glass dish or silicone moulds with coconut oil.
- Warm ½ cup Swoon Syrup over low heat in a heavy bottomed saucepan (or microwave for 15 seconds in a glass measuring cup/bowl).
- Add gelatin to the warm syrup and incorporate well by stirring.
- Put aside and let sit so it can bloom.
- Separately warm fruit puree over low heat until steaming hot but not boiling. Pull off heat.
- Add the puree gelatin and Swoon mixture. Mix well.
- (Optional) Add in other flavorings like vanilla bean.
- Pour into gummy moulds or an 8”x 8” glass baking dish.
- Refrigerate for 2 hours or until set. The larger the dish the longer to set.
- If using a glass baking dish, cut into small squares and serve. If using molds, pop out of molds and serve.

Notes
- You can use fruit purees/concentrates that are just the fruit, without the added sugar.
- You can add in optional flavorings like ginger or vanilla bean.
- You may be able to use gelatin sheets for this, but I have not tested it or know it's equivalent nutritive value to the powdered collagen gelatin.
- You could use regular simple syrup, but the gummies would be very sweet, and I do not know the ratios you might need to change to account for that. Try the Swoon Syrup if you can!
